Fungi are living organisms that are distinguished from animals and plants by some differences. Fungi have many benefits (the most famous example of the fungal properties is penicillin derived from the fungus of the same name) but some species are also the source of the disease in humans, animals, and plants. Some fungi can be fatal to humans because of the production of deadly toxins.

Medical Mycology is one of the branches of medical sciences. During this course, students will learn what fungi are medically important, what their infections are, how they are diagnosed, treated, and how to prevent them. Graduates of this field, in addition to training in the field of science and practice, participate in relevant research projects, identify fungal diseases, and help to development knowledge boundaries, create a scientific spirit, and improve community health.
Graduates of medical mycology can prepare and produce a variety of antigenic and antifungal antibodies for laboratory diagnosis and epidemiological studies in Iran and provide practical research projects for prevention and control of important fungal diseases in Iran.
