Mashhad College of Dentistry was established in 1966. Since the foundation of the University, over 3000 dentists have graduated. The area in which the cancer patients were identified (eastern provinces: north, Razavi and south Khorasan and Sistan and Baluchestan) comprises population about 7,500,000, and all head and neck cancer patients of this area are supposedly referred to Mashhad College of Dentistry(MCD) . Oral cancer is among the most important health concerns in the world. Despite advances in diagnostic approaches and treatment modalities, the survival rate is still low. In Iran, survival rate for all cancer types is 30%. This educational opportunity is provided by the group organizer for better understanding of different aspects of oral cancer diagnosis and treatment. For an optimum learning experience, sessions are limited to a maximum of 10 participants. The dentists will acquire knowledge and skills to provide advance level care for patients with oral cancer and precancerous lesions.
Attendance:
• The focus of the program is Oral Cancer and Precancerous Lesions
• The program is three weeks in length, but you continue to work in your dental office after program and you can be in contact with the organizing team.
• The program is designed for International trained dentists.
• With faculty guidance, the participants are required to prepare and present a research paper that deals with a topic in oral cancer. The topic can be selected from a list of suggested topics or determined by mutual agreement in conjunction with the group international program leader.
• During the final week at MCD, the participants are required to formally present one clinical case performed and completed in oral medicine department. Participants will be limited to no more than fifteen (15) minutes followed by a discussion and/or comments by group members and MCD faculty.
Goals and Objectives:
Upon completion of this program, the dentists will have the following knowledge and competencies:
A basic understanding of the mechanisms involving the pathophysiology of oral cancer and precancerous lesions.
A basic understanding of the risk factors of oral cancer and diversity of oral cancer in special populations
A basic understanding of diagnostic aids of oral cancer and employing them in clinical practice.
Competency in the examination and evaluation of patients with oral cancer and precancerous lesions.
