2- Course definition
The purpose of this course is to secure the professional requirements of nurses who have been chosen to be in the care of burnt patients at their work environment and also occupied nurses in the department of burns of Mashhad city and also to increase the level of knowledge and promote the professional skills of these nurses.
3- Course necessity, effects of executing the short-term professional program in the field of health:

In order to secure the professional-educational requirements of nurse graduates working in burn departments and to promote their professional skills ultimately leading to a better care quality of the burnt patients

The following goals will be accomplished upon completing this course:
a) Preparation of nurses in order to work in burn departments in regards to knowledge and skills related to caring of burnt patients
b) Introduction of nurses to the fundamentals and appropriate methods of caring of burnt patients
c) Promoting the level of knowledge and information of nurses in burn departments
d) Improvements in offering better nursing services in burn departments in order to prevent impositions and to promote the level of patient health

4- Training period:
30 hours of theoretical training equal to 1.76 theoretical credit hours
50 hours of practical training equal to 1 practical credit hour

Must explain the structure and operations of the skin
Must state the ways of determining the extent of the burn wound
Must explain the classification criteria for burn wounds
Must mention the local and general effects of burns on the body of the burnt patient
Must describe the effects of altering water and electrolytes on burn patients
Must mention the method of securing liquid and electrolytes for burn patients
Must explain the method of dressing burn wounds
Must state the benefits and disadvantages of local medicines used for burn wounds
Must mention the methods of controlling pain in burn patients
Must explain the nutritional requirements and how to attain them for burn patients
Must describe the nursing process for burn patients
Must mention methods of mental support needed for burn patients and their families
Must state the necessary cares and trainings needed for burn patients at disabled stages

Field of attitude:
Establishing an effective and appropriate connection with the burnt patients and their companions
Motivating and encouraging self-esteem in caring of burnt patients

Field of expertise:
Must estimate the depth of burning for at least two burnt patients
Must estimate the extent of burning for at least two burnt patients
Must calculate the amount of liquid needed for burnt patients according to brooks' formula for at least two patients
Must perform wound dressing on at least two stand-up patients at the burn clinic
Must perform wound dressing on at least two patients hospitalized at the burn department
Must perform physiotherapy for at least two patients, coordinating a physiotherapist at the burn department
Must perform nursing care procedures before and after skin graft for at least one patient
Must perform medicinal instructions according the patient board and records
Must perform mental support and training for the patent and the patients family in regards to continuing the care procedures and treatment for at least one patient
Must present necessary training related to appropriate nutrition during burn and at post-burn conditions for the patient and their family

B) Complete description of skill implementation:
The apprentice must know the methods of dressing burn wounds during emergency and also for hospitalized patients and must be able to perform them accordingly.

Midwife who has no working background in burn departments nor the necessary skills

Senior midwife who has no working experience in burnt departments

Promotion of knowledge and information about caring of burnt patients
Performing fundamental and practical and standard cares of burnt patients
