The purpose of this course is to promote quality of nursing services and increase the level of professional knowledge of nurses in special care divisions and also to secure professional requirements of the nurses at the starting stages of entering the ICU and also for occupied nurses in the ICU.

The purpose of this course is to promote quality of nursing services and increase the level of professional knowledge of nurses in special care divisions and also to secure professional requirements of the nurses at the starting stages of entering the ICU and also for occupied nurses in the ICU.

- Course necessity, effects of the short-term professional course on health:
This course has been codified based on the special circumstances of ICU patients, importance of appropriate and high quality care for these patients, and considering the technicality of caring in ICU. The present course pursues to secure the professional needs of nurse graduates for working in the ICU and to promote their professional skills in order to offer professional and high quality nursing care for patients in the ICU.


The following goals will be accomplished upon finishing this course:
1- Increasing the level of knowledge, attitude and skills of nurses in offering professional cares for ICU patients
2- Prevention of effects related to ICU patients
3- Empowering nurses in order to enter the special cares division
4- Promoting the quality of professional nursing services at the ICU

130 hours of theoretical training equal to 7.9 theoretical credit hours
120 hours of practical training equal to 6 novitiate credit hours

Data projector, computer, ICU equipment (from the Skill Lab at the Nursing and Midwifery college and ICU divisions of educational hospitals of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences)
- Training policies (attendance and other principles)
Regular attendance is essential during the course period.
If the number of absences exceed four sessions for theoretical classes and 4 days of clinical novitiate classes the participant will be disqualified.


- Registration fee
Total of 700 thousand tomans for each individual which includes: theoretical class fees: 4 million tomans with a capacity of 20 individuals; and practical classes fees: 1.5 million tomans plus each 5 companion with the hospital commissions which is 1 million tomans for 20 individuals; and the commission for the location of holding practical classes which is 1.5 million tomans for 20 individuals; and finally the 60 thousand toman fee of reception for each individual.

Must explain the characteristics of the ICU division
Must explain the monitoring and care of ICU patients in terms of different physical and mental dimensions
Must state the evaluation and pain controlling methods for ICU patients
Must explain the methods for calculating drugs for prescription in the ICU
Must explain the nutrition needed for ICU patients
Must explain the stages of advanced CPR in the ICU

Attitude:
The most important aspect of attitude for this course is the complete, fundamental and comprehensive evaluation of CCU patients in order to achieve an early diagnosis of disorders, prevent damages, perform appropriate interventions according to the priority of the situation, and also to create self-esteem and likeness in nurses in order to care for CCU patients.

Monitor and care for the cardiovascular system of the patient in ICU

Monitor and care for the urinary system of the patient in ICU

Monitor and care for the digestive system of the patient in ICU

Monitor and care for the mucous system of the patient in ICU

Monitor and care for the skin system of the patient in ICU
Monitor and care for the muscular and skeletal system of the patient in ICU
Perform mental monitoring and care for the patient in ICU
Evaluate and control the amount of pain the patient in ICU is suffering from
Appropriately calculate and prescribe the medicines prescribed for the ICU patient
Evaluate the nutritional requirements of the ICU patient and make the appropriate interventions
Must be able to perform advanced CPR in ICU

Complete description of skill implementation:
The apprentice must follow 70 to 80 percent of parameters related to the appropriate implementation of skills for all skills.

Details:  the theoretical program is a total of 27 days, 5 hours a day equal to 135 hours in total. From the 10th day forward the practical classes will be held simultaneously for 25 days, 5 hours a day equal to 125 hours total in special cares divisions under the supervision of the related instructor.
