Pregnancy and childbirth are among the most important stages in any woman’s life and a preface to the grand stages of becoming a mother and giving birth to another holding a peculiar holiness in all eras and cultures.
Maintaining the health of the mother and the fetus during this critical period has long been the focus of health system custodians worldwide. In this regard, the United Nations has assigned one of the goals of the millennium development goals codification (2000) to reduce death rates of mothers by 75 percent in the years of 1990 to 2015 and expects all member nations to contribute to their full extents.
One of the most important solutions for decreasing wasteful caesarian procedures is to present training programs during pregnancy preparing mothers for giving a safe childbirth. In regards of executing this program, a short-term course of preparations for childbirth (pregnant mothers) was established with the help of Nursing and Midwifery college of Mashhad.
The purpose of this course is the introduction of midwives with the execution and management processes of childbirth preparation classes, familiarization with mother-friendly hospitals and the enhancement of midwives in employing methods of reducing childbirth pains performing safe childbirths, decreasing caesarian sections, and finally lowering death rates of mothers. During this course, topics related to the advantages of physiological childbirth, basics of childbirth preparation classes, midwife caring models worldwide, rights of mothers during pregnancy and childbirth, pregnancy and childbirth from a medical ethics point of view, methods of teaching and training adults, non-medicinal methods of reducing childbirth pain including breathing technique and relaxation, massage therapy, status adjustment, aromatherapy, sound therapy, acupressure, hypnosis, support of personal companion, musculoskeletal training, the application of exercising during pregnancy and childbirth, and the rehabilitation after birth with the help of midwifery professors and reproductive health experts are the main concerns of this course.
This course is divided into 60 hours of theoretical training and 60 hours of practical training.

This course is currently held at the proposal of the deputy of treatments and the scientific secretary member of the midwifery department and is taught by department members.

*Practical Training
Training classes for safe childbirth for pregnant mothers are held at Om AlBanin and Imam Reza Hospitals and maternity department of Om AlBanin Hospital.
*Theoretical Training
Theoretical classes are held at the Nursing and Midwifery college conference hall.
*Technical equipment, computers and other specific equipment
Data projector, Educational videos, childbirth ball, massage chair, relaxation environment and equipment, Aerator and aromatherapy, audio player, television for displaying movies in clinical classes.
8. Educational principles (attendance, other principals)
Regular attendance during course period is essential.
Absences of more than 3 times for theoretical courses and more than 1 for clinical novitiate courses will conclude in being removed from the course.
