The diabetes pharmacotherapy short-course Program was organized to help young pharmacists from developing countries improve their practical skills and broaden their perspectives of diabetes care and management. Participants are expected to bring the acquired knowledge and skills back to their home countries about pharmacotherapy of diabetes type 1 and 2 and management of its acute and chronic complications. They will receive a diploma at the end of the course.
Diabetes Mellitus is rapidly emerging as a major public health problem. Although it is a chronic debilitating disease, early detection and effective management can significantly improve quality of life. Healthcare professionals therefore need the skills to effectively manage the disease. The Short Course in Diabetes Care and Management is an internationally recognized programme designed to provide registered health professionals with the knowledge and skills required to provide regular care to people at risk of or with diabetes. This course provides the health professional with an increased blend of knowledge and skills required to competently and confidently plan care for a person with diabetes / cardiovascular disease and provide regular care to people at risk of, or those who experience, diabetes. Health professionals will develop critical thinking through the exploration of problem-based learning, evidenced-based theory, and reflective and reflexive practice perspectives.
