Kidney stones (renal lithiasis, nephrolithiasis) are small hard mineral deposits formed inside the urinary tact. The stones are made of mineral and acid salts. Most stones are produced due to a combination of genetics and environmental reasons. Risk factors include overweight, certain foods, medications, and not drinking enough fluids.

Kidney stones (renal lithiasis, nephrolithiasis) are small hard mineral deposits formed inside the urinary tact. The stones are made of mineral and acid salts. Most stones are produced due to a combination of genetics and environmental reasons. Risk factors include overweight, certain foods, medications, and not drinking enough fluids.
The most common type of renal calculi is caused through calcium combination with oxalate in the urine. Inadequate calcium and fluid intake, among other conditions, may contribute to their formation.
This short course program has been organized for the young researchers from different countries to improve their skills regarding kidney stone formation model in animal.
The foreign applicants would be expected to become capable of establishing the animal model of calcium oxalate stone formation in the rat kidney.

Establishing the animal model of renal calculi in the rat: ethylene glycol induced calcium oxalate stone formation
