TMD patients present the restorative dentist with challenges that frequently involve much more than an intimate knowledge of occlusion to address. For many, referral is the preferred action when more than occlusion is involved. Practical exercises in examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and case discussion are combined with tools and techniques that help you connect with your patients and your practice.

In this short term course participants will learn: • Identification and examination of the muscles in the head and neck • Agonist and antagonist muscle relationships in TMD patients • Why joints break down • Why some clicks are dangerous and some are not • How and when to order imaging (CT and MRI) • Reading and interpreting CT and MRI • Identifying patients at high risk for dental treatment • To identify postural changes associated with TMD • How vision and the vestibular system affect TM disorders • Why and how to refer to physical therapy • Review of orofacial pain including neuropathic pain and headache • • Psychology of chronic pain • • Relationship between occlusion and TMD • Sleep bruxism and its relations to snoring and sleep apnea76v ________________________________________ Topics and Exercises: • Observation and diagnostic skills with TMD patients • Muscle palpation in the TMD patient • Joint evaluation in the TMD patient • Postural evaluation and physical therapy considerations • Demonstrations of JVA and T-Scan as data collection tools
