Trauma in General Surgery

This course is a training program for general surgeons and its main goals are to improve knowledge, attitude, performance, and skills needed for providing comprehensive services for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and training in incidents, accident and emergency trauma and plays an important role in health care team in all cases that other related disciplines are required to participate.

Specific Competencies and Skills

At the end of the program learners will be competent in the following skills:

• Inserting airway

• Establishing IV access

• Intra-osseous vascular infusion of femur and tibia in children

• Thoracostomy

• Cricothyroidotomy and tracheostomy

• Fast sonography

• Craniotomy and evacuation of extradural hematomas, subdural and intracerebral in emergency situations

• Fixation of cervical vertebrae

• External fixation of pelvic (pelvicband)

• Pericardiocentesis

• General surgery techniques

• Hemorrhage control

• Revascularization techniques

• Procedural skills

• Compartment syndrome surgery

• Fasciotomy

• Splinting

• Fixing urgent dislocations

• Placing traction in bone fractures

• Casting

• Intraoperative angiography

• Working with respirators and other critical care systems
