Economists focus on health care for a variety of reasons. First, health care resources are scarce and, as in other cases, demand for health services is greater than the supply of these services. With rising health costs, shortage of resources cannot be easily eliminated because the importance of opportunity costs is often ignored, and in many cases, our criterion for resource allocation in the health sector is not the desire or ability but the need. So we need a set of economic techniques to analyze and evaluate the healthcare market. The mission of this course is to provide up-to date health-related topics particularly on making the best use of the resource in the health services.
More information can be found in the educational instructions for students. They need to be followed by the students.
Health economics graduates will be able to play the following roles:
- Designing economic plans and presenting them to relevant authorities.
- Providing economic advice to health authorities.
- Evaluation of health markets at micro and macro levels.
- Participating in the formulation of health economic instructions with relevant authorities.
