A two weeks short- term course on “Fluid and Electrolyte Imbalance -diagnosis and management” will be held by our professional team which is included professors of Nephrology and Emergency departments.

Aim

The Aim of this program is familiarity with all diagnostic clues and methods and also determination timely best managements in fluid disturbances and electrolyte imbalance to prevent complications.

Description

Electrolytes are the smallest chemicals that are important for cell function and very critical in production and consumption of energy. Fluid and Electrolyte disturbances are a common laboratory finding in a wide range of disease and rapid detection need to identify causes, signs and symptoms. This is a topic of particular complexity because the distribution of water and electrolytes in body compartments varies according to the individual’s age and health status and on the other hand, adjusting each of them can be effective on the other electrolyte’s levels. You will be acquainted with iidentification of electrolyte disturbances in the bedside, methods for rapid detection , diagnosis the causes, treatment (either acute or chronic), complications and side effects of treatment . We will practice this in various clinical conditions.

Main Topics

·      Familiarity with composition of body Fluids
·      Familiarity with composition of body electrolytes
·      Familiarity with  regulation of osmolality and volume
·      Foundations of Sodium  metabolism (body content, physiologic function, intake and excretion )
·      Awareness of  Sodium disturbances ( definition, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations,          diagnosis and treatment)
·      Foundations of Potassium  metabolism (body content, physiologic function, intake and excretion )
·      Awareness of  Potassium disturbances ( definition, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical                             manifestations, diagnosis and treatment)
·      Foundations of Calcium metabolism (body content, physiologic function ,intake  and                              excretion)
·      Awareness of  Calcium disturbances ( definition, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations,           diagnosis and treatment)
