Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Center
The Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Center (PSRC) at Tehran University of Medical Sciences (TUMS) was established in 2003. PSRC aims to enhance interest in research among students, recruit and support researchers at all academic levels, conduct both fundamental and applied researches in different fields of pharmaceutical sciences, and promote research and training methods. The center's present activity is mainly focused on research in different fields of pharmaceutical sciences, and the related departments are going to be established soon. PSRC is located in the School of Pharmacy at TUMS campus.

PSRC’s high national ranking during its years of activity as well as its scientific members' brilliant background makes this center prominent among others.

Some of PSRC’s achievements are:

  • First ranking degree among biomedical independent-budget centers for four consecutive years (2005-2008) and 2012
  • First ranking in Razi Festival among the biomedical independent budget centers for the years 2005-2008 and 2012
  • Second ranking grade among the biomedical independent-budget centers for three consecutive years from 2009 to 2011
  • Setting-up pre-clinical and clinical tests of new drugs and success in completing tests of three registered drugs
  • Conducting several projects to help pharmaceutical industry
  • Successful linking of basic and clinical studies
  • Valuable impact on TUMS scientific ranking during the last 8 years
  • Prof Abbas Shafiee, Dean of PSRC, with more than 500 scientific papers, and Prof Mohammad Abdollahi, Vice-Dean of PSRC, with more than 500 scientific papers are listed among top %1 scientists of the world. Dr Alireza Foroumadi with more than 200 scientific papers is one the best researchers in medicinal chemistry in Iran (3rd ranking in pharmaceutical sciences group in 2012). The mentioned professors of PSRC have already trained many qualified students at the doctorate and post-doctorate levels.

Well equipped laboratories which are facilitated by Flow Cytometer, HPLC, ELISA-Reader, Clean Room, cell culture facilities, NMR, Mass, IR, UV-Vis, etc. are only some of other positive points of PSRC. Furthermore, due to the location of PSRC’s building, which is located in the 3rd floor of Faculty of Pharmacy, students can use facilities of both the faculty and PSRC.
