Aja University of Medical Sciences started its work as a part of the Imam Reza Hospital Complex in 1993.
In 1994, with the approval of the Aja University Organization chart, and placements of Medicine, Nursing & Paramedicine faculties; the first series of medical students were accepted.
In 1996, the university was relocated to an adjacent complex outside of the imam Reza hospital and officially became a separate organization.
