Tehran is situated in northwestern Iran and it is the most populous city in Iran and Western Asia that has the second largest metropolitan area in the Middle East.
The metropolis of Tehran is divided into 22 municipal districts, each with its own administrative center. 20 of the 22 municipal districts are located in Tehran counties Central District, while the districts1 and 20 are respectively located in the counties of Shemiranat and Ray.
