In 1975 Higher Institute for Midwifery was established by admitting 20 students for associate in midwifery. From its foundation until the beginning of Cultural Revolution and opening of universities, 104 students of 5 majors in associate level were graduated. After the Cultural Revolution, the universities opened again in May 1980. After Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences was established, this institute was promoted to nursing and midwifery school in 1988 by admitting 80 students for B.S. There are 28 faculty staff including 3 professors, 8 associate professors, 15 assistant professors, and 2 instructors in the school of Nursing and Midwifery. Right now 689 students are studying in this school.
