Vision

The Persian prospective cohort study is the most credible amongst observational studies satisfying the need to do research in the field of major non-contagious diseases for research centers, organizations and researchers in international, national and provincial scales.

Mission

The Persian prospective cohort study is the first research of this type done in the Mazandaran University of Medical Science aiming at pushing the boundaries of research,  knowledge and science production. Enjoying the precious experience of faculty members, researchers and practised employees of the university, interacting with people and winning their support and also benefitting from facilities of both the university and ministry of health, this study is confident to take steps toward its ultimate goal which is upgrading the health status in the society and establishing sustainable development in the field of science production.

Goals

Goals of the study:

Identifying the risk factors of non-contagious diseases.

Identifying the causes of premature death.

Establishing the infrastructure for population-based researches in medical science universities.

Building a biobank, valuable research storage for carrying out studies in basic science and genetics, and finding the biomarkers of different diseases and methods of diagnosing and curing them.

Utilizing the Cohort Persian (Mazandaran) database to monitor the health status and disease.

Working in close collaboration with other scientific research centers on a global scale along with exchange programs for researches and students.

History

The prospective cohort study of Mazandaran is epidemiological research conducted

The prospective cohort study of Mazandaran is epidemiological research conducted and designed for the purpose of elevating scientific studies in identifying the causes of, mechanism and preventive measures to avoid chronic diseases which account for an overwhelming rate of diseases in the society. The preliminary and pilot phases of this project started in October 2014 and May 2015 respectively. This study comprehensively examines the health status of subjects aged between 35 and 70 in the city of Sari by examining, questioning, sampling, running tests and continuous follow-up. The underlying purpose of all these tests and examinations is to identify the risk factors of major non-contagious diseases, namely diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer because by identifying these factors and taking preventive steps the risk of getting these diseases will  decrease by 80 percent and the life expectancy of those exposed to the risk will increase.
