 Department of Physiotherapy

The Department of Physiotherapy was established within the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences (USWR) in 1992. The department is active in teaching theoretical and clinical subjects and also intensely research-active. Therefore, the academics and students are engaged in a variety of research activities. While many students graduated, numerous students are currently studying in our department.  In this world class department, all staff is committed to exemplary professional behavior, collaboration and support.

The department welcomes national and also international students at undergraduate and also postgraduate levels.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is one of the most respected and well recognized majors in health care and the rehabilitation industry.

This profession will use a wide range of anatomical knowledge and hands on/off skills for assessment, management and care of orthopedics and sport injuries, cardio-respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions, women's health, pediatrics and other different kinds of chronic diseases.

By the rise of the need for physiotherapy across the world, this area of health care has excellent career prospects in clinical and academic fields.

Aims

The Department of Physiotherapy aims to promote, maintain and restore health and prevent disability in people of all ages. We are also concerned with optimizing potential ability, physical function, independence and quality of life through rehabilitation practices. Therefore, we are going to undertake the best practice in education and research in a progressive and supportive environment for both educators and students.

Our vision is to prepare the highest quality Physiotherapy students in the world. And our mission is to introduce students with the latest world knowledge of physiotherapy and perform innovative research. Toward achieving the aforementioned vision and mission, our academic members work incredibly hard to provide excellent research and dynamic education. Throughout this aim, we work in collaboration with other universities at national and international level.

Teaching

We teach undergraduate and postgraduate (at M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels) students based on a fully integrated curriculum that combines self-directed learning opportunities with high quality lectures and tutorials. The graduates will have the opportunity to join the postgraduate program of physiotherapy, (e.g., M.Sc., or Ph.D. in physiotherapy).

The department seeks to develop you into a confident and competent professional by delivering physiotherapy training right from the beginning of your course until the last day of your study. We aim to achieve this by introducing a varied range of management and treatment environments from a musculoskeletal clinic to a hospital ward.

Students have full access to the comprehensive advanced study, clinical training and teaching, library and recreational facilities of the only rehabilitation university in the region.

Research

Research is the foundation for teaching and clinical practice in a physiotherapy department.  Our department has an internationally recognized research program in different areas such as musculoskeletal, neurology, women's health, children's health, sports injuries and motor control and offers Post Graduate Research Degrees (Master of Philosophy and Doctor of Philosophy) in Physiotherapy.

USWR in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 has introduced University of Social Welfare & Rehabilitation among the top institutions worldwide.

The ranking includes more than 1,600 universities across 99 countries and territories, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

News

Iranian longitudinal Study on Aging (IRLSA) database launched

The national project "Iranian longitudinal Study on Aging" IRLSA was officially launched in January 2020 by Research Center on Aging of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences in collaboration with the Welfare Department of Yazd Province, Yazd University of Medical Sciences and Ardakan County Research Center.

    In this national project, information is collected on 5,000 samples of middle-aged people aged 50 to older (even 90 years old) who have participated in the project, and during 15 years, based on about one thousand variables, Physical, psychological, social, spiritual and environmental changes of these people are monitored to determine the problems of population.

 

The results and information obtained from the implementation of the first phase of the project are a guide for the country's National Aging Document and can help organizations involved in aging to plan to address the problems of the elderly.
