 Department of Social Welfare Management         

The USWR Department of Social Welfare Management was established in 1999. We are an interdisciplinary centre for teaching and research in social welfare and social policy. Our department offers graduate programs leading to MS in “Social Welfare” and PhD degrees in “Health and Social Welfare”. The academic backgrounds of members of staff and our teaching group include Social Policy, Sociology, Economics, Social Medicine, Psychiatry, Public Health, and Law.

We warmly welcome candidates with a good background in any of the social sciences and related subjects.

What is Social Welfare Management?

Social Welfare Management is about the quality of life of the entire society and improving the wellbeing of the society and its individuals as members of it.

Aims

The aim of this department is production and development of social welfare knowledge regarding the present and future needs of our society through preparing qualified and effective human resources for management, policy making, and planning in health and social services sectors.

Our vision is to prepare the highest quality social welfare students in the world. And our mission is to introduce students with the latest world knowledge and perform innovative research. Toward achieving the aforementioned vision and mission, our academic staff works incredibly hard to provide excellent research and dynamic education. Throughout this aim we work in collaboration with other universities at national and international levels.

Teaching

We teach postgraduate and Ph.D. students based on a fully integrated curriculum that combines self-directed learning opportunities with high quality lectures and tutorials.

Research

Research is the foundation for teaching and applied practice in theSocial Welfare Department. Our department has an internationally recognized research programs in different areas such as social policy, social health, social problems, social determinants of health, social services.

Services We Offer

The department offers postgraduate studies including M.Sc. in social welfare and Ph.D. in health and social welfare. As a social welfare management student, you will develop skills in learning, research and decision making which are necessary parts of working in this field.

USWR in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022 has introduced University of Social Welfare & Rehabilitation among the top institutions worldwide.

The ranking includes more than 1,600 universities across 99 countries and territories, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators that measure an institution’s performance across four areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Iranian longitudinal Study on Aging (IRLSA) database launched

The national project "Iranian longitudinal Study on Aging" IRLSA was officially launched in January 2020 by Research Center on Aging of the University of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation Sciences in collaboration with the Welfare Department of Yazd Province, Yazd University of Medical Sciences and Ardakan County Research Center.

    In this national project, information is collected on 5,000 samples of middle-aged people aged 50 to older (even 90 years old) who have participated in the project, and during 15 years, based on about one thousand variables, Physical, psychological, social, spiritual and environmental changes of these people are monitored to determine the problems of population.

 

The results and information obtained from the implementation of the first phase of the project are a guide for the country's National Aging Document and can help organizations involved in aging to plan to address the problems of the elderly.
